This is the 3rd year in row I’ve gone to this event. Last year was filled with amazingly futuristic presentations and technology, and highlighted by a fabulous keynote on Cloud Computing by Randy Katz.
This year seemed more toned down for some reason. The presentations by Professors were compelling and entertaining, but at the same time the tone seemed to be more somber.
Last year the tone was more Flash Gordon, exploring the exciting future ahead that marvels in bioengineering will provide. This year instead the theme was more focused on energy conservation and how humanity can face down the specter of Global Warming.
One of the most telling phrases was pronounced by David Culver, who said “Do Nothing Well,” emphasizing the importance of containing energy waste over that of expanding our technology footprint.
